
On February 10, Korea University Sejong Campus, through its Sejong Research and Business Cooperation Foundation, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with AI company Upstage at the Research and Business Cooperation Building to foster AI specialists and AX (AI Transformation) convergence talented human resource.
Upstage is a company leading the domestic generative AI field, developing enterprise AI solutions and productivity tools based on large language models (LLMs), and leading AI transformation across industries.
Based on lightweight models and industry-specialized AI technologies, it is driving practical AI innovation in various fields including finance, manufacturing, public sector, and education.
This agreement was promoted in line with the government’s policy direction of advancing AI-centered universities, aiming to systematically cultivate AI innovation professionals through cooperation between universities and private companies. The two institutions plan to jointly develop practice-oriented AI curricula and strengthen research cooperation to revitalize the regional AI ecosystem.

Through the agreement, both institutions plan to jointly promote: △ co-development and operation of practice-oriented AI-related curricula △ AI-related research cooperation and academic exchange △ operation of field training and internship programs for undergraduate and graduate students △ joint research and project operation using industrial field data held by the company △ utilization of industry professionals as adjunct professors and research and business cooperation faculty members.
Choi Dooho, Director of the Sejong Research and Business Cooperation Foundation at Korea University, stated, “This agreement will become an important turning point in innovating the university’s education system toward an AI-centered structure together with a specialized AI company. We will establish a virtuous cycle extending from undergraduate and graduate education to research cooperation and industry-linked projects, thereby contributing to the development of the regional AI industry and the strengthening of national AI competitiveness.”
Relatedly, Korea University Sejong Campus has been expanding AI convergence education and research and business cooperation programs through the SW-Centered University Project, and with this agreement as a momentum, plans to gradually expand cooperation with AI companies and accelerate the establishment of a regional hub-type AI education and research center.
