On March 5, Korea University Sejong Campus held a completion ceremony for the remodeling of the Student Union Building of Korea University Sejong Campus. The ceremony was organized to announce the reopening of the newly renovated Student Union Building as a student-centered communication and cultural space and to commemorate the completion of the construction.
The ceremony was attended by various internal and external guests, including President Kim Dongwon of Korea University, Chairman Kwon Ohseop of L&P Cosmetic, Vice President Yang Jiwoon of Sejong Campus, Dean Kim Taegon of the College of Science and Technology, Dean Park Sunggyu of the College of Pharmacy, Dean Jung Kyueon of the College of Global Business, Dean Jeon Sooyoung of the College of Public Policy, Director Lee Byunghee of Student Welfare, and President Oh Miryeong of the Sejong Student Council. The event proceeded in the following order: opening remarks and the national ceremony, a report on the remodeling progress, a congratulatory speech by President Kim Dongwon, remarks by Chairman Kwon Ohseop, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the completion.
After the completion ceremony, an unveiling ceremony for the Donor Wall was held at Mediheal Hall. A thank-you video produced by Sejong Campus students was screened, and representatives of student self-governing organizations delivered letters of appreciation. After the event, the attendees toured the major facilities of the Student Union Building and inspected the newly renovated spaces together.
Since its establishment in 1998, the Korea University Sejong Campus Student Union Building had served as a base for student self-governing activities for about 27 years. However, it had limitations in meeting the increasingly diverse needs for student activities and welfare. Accordingly, as part of the university’s 120th anniversary key projects, the Sejong Campus carried out a full-scale remodeling of the Student Union Building to reorganize it into a more comfortable and functional space.
The remodeling project began planning in March 2024 and went through about one year of preparation. Construction started in May 2025 and was completed this year. The interior space of approximately 4992m2 was reorganized to expand facilities that support student organizations, club activities, and campus life.
The environment of club rooms was improved, and dedicated meeting spaces for student self-governing organizations were established. The health center was also newly renovated to strengthen student welfare functions. In addition, a cafeteria was created on the first floor to form a lifestyle-oriented space where study, rest, and culture can naturally connect.
The external space was also expanded. On the south side of the building, a multipurpose deck of about 727m2 was newly installed, creating an open space that can be used not only for relaxation but also for small performances and exhibitions. In addition, the heating and cooling system and electrical capacity were improved to ensure a stable and comfortable environment throughout all four seasons.
In particular, the ‘MEDIHEAL Hall’ on the fourth floor of the Student Union Building was newly created as a multifunctional cultural space equipped with state-of-the-art facilities through a donation of 1 billion won from Kwon Ohseop, Chairman of L&P Cosmetic. In the future, it is expected to be used as a central cultural venue on campus where lectures, performances, and large-scale events can be held.
