Three laboratories recognized for excellence in safety management, demonstrating outstanding laboratory safety practices.
On March 12, Korea University Sejong Campus held the ‘2025 Outstanding Laboratory Safety Management Certification Award Ceremony’ in the Research and Business Cooperation Building.
The ceremony was organized to encourage laboratories that obtained certification through the ‘Outstanding Laboratory Safety Management Certification System,’ overseen by the Ministry of Science and ICT, and to share achievements in creating a safe research environment.
The certification system is designed to strengthen autonomous safety management capabilities and prevent accidents in laboratories at universities and research institutions. To receive certification, laboratories must score at least 80 points in each category across 29 evaluation criteria, including laboratory safety environment systems, safety activity levels, and safety awareness among personnel, and pass the certification review committee.
At Korea University Sejong Campus, a total of three laboratories earned this certification: the Drug Target Structure Laboratory and the Pharmacognosy Laboratory in the College of Pharmacy, and the Smart Food Engineering Laboratory in the Department of Food and Biotechnology. During the ceremony, certificates were awarded, along with commendations and rewards for outstanding laboratories and research personnel.
Relatedly, Korea University Sejong Campus continues to provide ongoing investment and support each year to create a safe laboratory environment. It supports participating laboratories with funding for safety environment improvements and offers rewards to research personnel, striving to establish a strong culture of safety.
